Today, I’m going to be the old man yelling at a cloud.
Here are 9 things businesses do that I HATE, HATE, HATE:
1. Not Getting To The Point
The quicker or more succinctly I can explain something, the more impactful it is. Someone once sent me to a 3-hour YouTube video to explain something simple. Nope. Get to the point.
2. Hidden Pricing
If you cannot share your pricing openly and consistently, I am going somewhere else. Don’t hide behind “value-based pricing” or require a 25-minute sales pitch.
3. Being a Hypocrite
If you claim to be a social media wizard but have only 120 connections on that platform, practice what you preach.
4. No Customer Service
Even bad customer service is something, but companies with none? No phone number, no follow-ups, nothing. Run.
5. No Reviews That You Don’t Control
If reviews are only on your website and not on Google/Facebook/etc., run the other way.
6. Pushy Sales Tactics
No one wants to hear from you until they need to. Don’t spam or force urgency.
7. Inconvenient Processes
If I need to print anything, I am going somewhere else. E-sign, e-pay, auto-charge — make it simple.
8. Overpromising
When features are “coming soon” for months and never arrive, don’t overpromise.
9. Forcing a List to Be Longer Than Needed
Stop throwing out unnecessary features. End it already.
That being said — what did I miss?
Next week I’m getting personal. Today is my last day of 75Hard, so I’ll write about how I did it and how it applies to your law firm (spoiler: same principles, just swap “firm revenue” for “BMI”).
Until then, may your childhood best friend, who you’ve never mentioned in two prior movies, not magically show up to drive you nuts.
