I Might Be on Vacation, But I’m Never Really Gone…
Coming to you live from the past—which I think is possible without going 88 MPH or installing a flux capacitor.
This was written weeks ago.
Which actually makes it more relevant, because today we’re talking about batching and blocking your time so your business doesn’t require your constant presence.
As a solo or small firm owner, your time is the bottleneck.
So if you want maximum impact without maximum burnout, you need to:
- work in batches
- block your schedule
- stop pretending everything has to be done right now
If that sounds abstract, go check out the webinar we did on 10 Tips to a 3-Day Work Week. It’ll make this click.
Batching Is Non-Negotiable (Especially for Marketing)
Emergencies happen.
Trials run long.
Clients freak out.
That’s normal.
What’s not normal is using those things as an excuse to:
- disappear from social media for 5 months
- shoot one video and abandon the idea forever
- write one blog post and call it a strategy
Yes, yes—habits over goals. I know. I’m beating a dead horse. But the horse keeps needing it.
So for this example, let’s talk social media batching.
How I Batch My Content (Steal This)
I run my content calendar on a 4-week cycle, not a calendar month.
Why?
Because months are chaos.
Four weeks are predictable.
I also like tying themes to days, and four-week chunks make that cleaner—especially when months randomly decide to have five weeks and ruin everything.
Each cycle, I push four connection points:
1. Join our Facebook group
2. Download our worksheets (like a sample content calendar 👀)
3. Connect with me on other platforms
4. Sign up for this newsletter
Now each CTA appears once per cycle, not whenever I panic and remember it exists.
The 4-Week Batch System
Assuming you trust me (no promises, but historically this works):
Week 1
Fill out the content calendar for the next 4-week cycle.
Week 2
Write anything you’ll need:
- articles
- blog posts
- scripts
- outlines
Week 3
Film videos and record content.
Week 4
Edit, finalize captions, and schedule everything.
Then…
rinse and repeat
You’re now 1–4 weeks ahead at all times.
Why This Actually Gives You a Life
This is how you:
- take time off
- batch ahead before vacations
- write three newsletters in one sitting instead of panicking weekly
- still post consistently
(Yes, that is exactly what I’m doing.)
And before you panic—I have a 4–5 person team helping me.
You do not need that.
If you post 3–5 times per week for a year, on a platform you already use and engage on, you would be shocked at how far that alone will take you.
Don’t Batch So Far That You Miss Reality
You still want space for real life.
Anyone serious about content should watch Fake Famous.
Quick premise: they try to manufacture Instagram fame for three people… and then COVID hits.
So what do influencers do when the world shuts down?
A) Disappear forever
B) Dive headfirst into chaos for attention
C) Pause briefly, then keep posting like normal
D) Use their platforms for awareness and fundraising
No spoilers—but whichever answer you picked says a lot about you, and I love you for it.
The Final Step: Protect the Time
Once you’ve batched, you still have to schedule the work.
Find the time that’s least likely to get hijacked by emergencies.
- Monday morning
- Maybe Wednesday
- Maybe Friday afternoon
- Maybe a weekend morning (and you take time off elsewhere)
Then put it on your calendar like it matters—because it does.
This is how you keep your firm growing
without being chained to it.
And yes…
I wrote this weeks ago.
And yes…
it’s still doing its job.
