Read on for how Futurama jokes can actually help you build your brand.
Last week on Jordan O in the Know… cue dramatic music
But seriously—last week we talked about figuring out your brand.
You might phrase that as:
- What do I want to be known for?
- How do I want people to think about me?
- What do people think of when they think of me?
Ideally, the answer is something like:
“They’re incredible at what they do, easy to work with, and deliver a great client experience.”
For me, I want people to think:
“That dude seems cool and lives a great life. If I hire him to do my marketing, maybe I can be cool and live a great life too.”
So the next logical question is…
How Do We Mind-Control People Into Thinking What We Want?
If possible, I highly recommend acquiring a Hypnotoad.
Unfortunately, Futurama is still about 978 years away, so until then, here are your best alternatives.
1. Social Media (The Closest Thing to Hypnosis We Have)
There’s no better way to change minds at scale.
Sure—you could make one post that goes viral and reaches millions.
That’s probably not happening.
But you can make 3–5 posts per week that reach a few hundred people each time.
And when the same people see your content over and over again, something powerful happens:
They start to form an opinion about you.
Let’s do some math:
- 500 people per post
- ~2,000 views per week
- 10,000 views per month
- 120,000 views per year
If you only need 50 solid referral sources, that adds up fast.
But You Have to Post the Right Stuff
What people love depends on:
- your ideal client
- the platform
Generally speaking:
1) Funny things
My post about single-ply toilet paper got way more engagement than deep marketing strategy.
Other hits include:
- bad cheese puns
- Batman costumes
- Study Butte / butt jokes
You know. Highbrow content.
2) Cool things
Travel photos with my family > long text posts
(Unless it’s LinkedIn—then everyone suddenly loves paragraphs.)
3) Engagement bait (the good kind)
Polls on LinkedIn
Wins on Facebook
Questions that invite interaction
BUT (Butt. Study Butte.)
You still need substance.
That means:
- In-depth videos
- Awards you earned (not the ones you paid for… you know who you are)
- Client testimonials
Every lawyer online claims they’re amazing.
Let your clients say it for you.
2. A Newsletter (Old School, Still Powerful)
A weekly newsletter to:
- clients
- referral sources
- potential clients
…is one of the easiest ways to stay top-of-mind at scale.
It lets people:
- learn more about you
- see how you think
- remember to finally call you
Owned media has a ton of hidden benefits—but at minimum, it keeps you present without fighting algorithms.
3. A Live Show (This One’s a Cheat Code)
Nothing has helped me grow more than our Exhibit A show.
Think about the content multiplier:
- Announce the show
- Record the show
- Audio becomes a podcast
- Transcript becomes SEO content
- Upload to YouTube
6–10. Cut clips for social media - Turn insights into infographics
- Build carousels or slide decks
And that’s before the best parts:
- You build a real relationship with the guest
- It reaches their audience too
- You ask who else you should interview next
Also—huge difference between:
“Want to grab a 10-minute Zoom?”
and
“You’re doing awesome work—can I interview you on my show?”
If you’re comfortable on camera, this is the best way to fill your content calendar and meet new people.
4. Speaking Engagements (Borrowed Authority, Real Impact)
Webinars.
Masterclasses.
Panels.
Conferences.
Same concept as a show—but with someone else vouching that you’re worth listening to.
Standing on a stage (virtual or real) gives you instant credibility.
One plea:
Do not turn it into a sales pitch.
If you give real value and explain your best stuff, the business comes naturally.
(And no—I am not selling you a course for $12.95 “for today only.”
Even joking about that makes my skin crawl.)
Value first. Money second.
Brand Building Is the SEO of Human Interaction
I wish I had a magic trick that let you skip all this and build an amazing brand overnight.
I don’t.
Brand building works like SEO:
- It takes time to rank
- But once you’re there, it sticks
And yes—everything above still feeds back into social media. It’s the hub.
