But This Newsletter 100% Is
It’s already almost February.
By the time you read this, January will basically be over.
That means 1/12th of the year is gone.
Which is… kind of wild.
I swear time now exists in two eras:
- the COVID slog
- and the before times
But I digress.
Hopefully, you’re on track to hit your numbers, metrics, goals, and plans for the year.
And if you are—amazing. Keep going.
But if you’re not… let’s talk.
If You’re Not Getting the Results You Want — It’s Your Fault
I know.
That sounds harsh.
But stay with me.
I didn’t lose as much weight this month as I wanted to.
Why?
Because I didn’t exercise enough… and I ate too much food.
(And to be clear — it was delicious.)
My law firm didn’t close as many cases as we wanted this month.
Why?
Because I didn’t get a new system implemented fast enough to speed up filings.
At first, blaming yourself feels awful.
But it’s actually incredibly liberating.
Because if it’s your fault…
then it’s also your responsibility.
And if it’s your responsibility…
then it’s something you can change.
And let’s be honest—who’s easier to change:
- you
- or literally anyone else?
Exactly.
If it’s all on you, and you’re the easiest person to adjust…
you’ve got this.
Let’s Apply This to Real Problems
“I’m Too Busy”
Other people can do a LOT of what you’re currently doing.
Listen—Carly Simon did not write that song about you.
Your job is to:
- delegate
- automate
- outsource
Build your magical ice cave and LET IT GO
(But do it intentionally—clean handoffs, clear systems.)
“I’m Not Getting Enough Referrals”
Ask yourself:
- Are you spending the same time with referral sources as before?
- Are you stretched too thin?
- Are you being impersonal?
- Did you disappear into a 1950s nuclear bunker for 20 months and re-emerge like Brendan Fraser trying to make small talk?
Relationships need maintenance.
Referrals don’t happen on autopilot.
“My Employees Are Underperforming”
Before blaming them, ask:
- Do they have the right systems?
- The right training?
- The time to succeed?
If yes—and they’re still not performing (or they’re a culture mismatch)—
it might be time to make a change.
Kindness includes clarity.
“My Marketing Isn’t Working”
Marketing failures are rarely just the ads.
It could be:
- the website
- the contact forms
- who answers the phone
- the intake or sales process
Identify the real bottleneck, fix that, and watch what changes.
And if you’re stuck—call for help.
(Yes, that’s what we’re here for.)
This Applies to Your Personal Life Too
My wife and I did a Fair Play card reset this week.
We were both surprised by how evenly things were split.
Which means… we don’t get to use that excuse anymore—
with our son, friends, or unicorn-space logistics.
Growth is annoying like that.
It’s All on You — But You’re Not Alone
Take the help.
- Hire the extra person
- Use Instacart
- Bring on a new vendor
- Get a housekeeper
- Buy back your time however you can
If something has been holding you back, you officially have permission to address it and see what happens.
Bonus Tip (Because I Care About You)
Valentine’s Day is coming.
Make the reservations now.
Buy the gift now.
Remember—you’re doing all this to have a life, not sacrifice one.
Don’t take a rough year out on your spouse.
And if it’s been a great year?
Lavish them.
My wife is getting a trip to Hawaii.
And I’m getting the gift of… taking my wife to Hawaii.
(I kid. Mostly.)
Final Thought
The only thing standing between you and the thing you really want…
…is also you.
(And maybe some security measures. But you get the idea.)
You can do this.
And if you’re still reading this, you probably already know that.
Let me know how I can help.
