Last Week on Jordan O in The Know...cue dramatic music!!!
But seriously, we spoke about how you figure out what brand you're trying for. Maybe you phrase it as what do you want to be known for? Or how do you want people to think about you? Or what do you want people to think of, WHEN they think of you.
Ideally it's something about you being great at your job, a go to lawyer who does amazing work while providing a great client experience.
For me, I want you to think - dude seems cool and lives a great life, if I hire him to do my marketing, then I do can be cool and live a great life.
So know...HOW DO WE MIND CONTROL PEOPLE INTO THINKING THE WAY WE WANT
If you can, I suggest getting a hypnotoad!
But, realizing the world of Futurama is still 978 years away...here are a few alternatives:
Social Media
There's really no better way to change minds at scale than on social media. You can make 1 post that could be seen by millions of people. That's probably not going to happen.
But you can make 3-5 posts a week that might be seen by a few hundred people each time. And then when the same people see your posts over and over again, you can slowly get them to think a certain way about you and realize your brand.
And remember, if you only need 50 referral sources...even 500 people seeing every post means about 2000 per week. 10000 views a month. 120,000 views a year. It adds up FAST.
But you have to post the right stuff. So what do people love?
It depends upon your ideal client and the platform.
1) things that are funny - my post about single-ply toilet paper got A LOT more engagement than when I do deep on a marketing topic
Check out my instagram reels feed - what gets the most views? Bad cheese puns, batman costume, Study Butte/Butt jokes
2) things that are cool - travel photos of me and the family at cool places > long text post (unless it's Linked In)
3) things that ask for engagement - polls on linked in, sharing a win on facebook, etc
BUT, BUT, BUTT, STUDY BUTTE
You ALSO need to make sure you're getting your point across.
So you still need some of the in-depth videos.
You still need to share the awards you earned (not the ones you paid for...you know who you are)
You still need to share client testimonials. No lawyer is going to get up here and say that they are OKAY at what they do...we all brag on social media. So let the clients speak for you with reviews or testimonials.
A Newsletter
Maybe you should start sending out a weekly newsletter to your clients, referral sources, potential clients, etc
Maybe that's just what it will take to help people read more about you and your life and what you're up to. Or remind that PNC to have you call them now. There are a TON of extra benefits of owned media like this, but it's a solid option to get in front of your list at scale.
A live show
Seriously, nothing has helped me grow more than our Exhibit A show. I get to connect with an awesome guest. We chat for an hour, I get a TON of content for social media, seriously, think about it
1) the asset to announce the show
2) the show itself
3) the audio becomes a podcast
4) the transcript becomes SEO content on our website
5) it goes to youtube
6-10) we cut small clips out of each episode for social posts
11) we make infographics out of it
12) there are carousels or slide decks that can come out of any list or process discussed
ALSO, I get to build a relationship with the guest.
ALSO, it hopefully goes to their contacts as well.
ALSO, I ask all my guests who else would be a good guest to meet new people.
The list goes on. If you're cool in front of a camera, this is the BEST way to fill a large chunk of your content calendar & as you try to meet new people, there's a HUGE difference between "can we do a 10 minute zoom meeting to get to know each other" and "I think you're doing awesome stuff, can I interview you on my show?"
Speaking Engagements
Webinars. Masterclasses. Conferences. Panels. Whatever you want to call them. This is very similar to having your own show, but with someone else vouching that you have something worthwhile to say (at least I HOPE I do when y'all ask me to speak!).
Whether it's virtual or in-person, or a mix or hybrid or in the meta-verse, nothing gives you cache like standing above someone on stage and providing really good value. And please please please, don't be that person who just turns it into a sales pitch. I promise you, if you explain your best stuff and are engaging, you'll get more sales. For more on how to do this, buy my course that is usually $1,000,000 but for the first 35 people who murder each other to get to the front of the room, it's only $12.95...act now, I have NEVER given it out for this price...(see...my skin is crawling, even joking about it...unless your ideal client is a level 7 susceptible...value first, money second).
And to be clear - you should be sharing any thing from the other options on social media as well...so really it all comes back to that.
I wish I had something super magical and amazing to share with you here that would allow you cut all these corners and build an amazing brand overnight...but it doesn't happen that way. Brand building is the SEO of human interaction. It takes a while to "rank" but you want it to stick once you get there.
That being said, if you do need a content calendar or want to go through your ideal client/social media audience - we have the technology we can build it - for free on our education page.
Until then, let me know how I support you on your content/brand building journey!
See you next Friday.
